When we first wanted teach Jo about having a heart for those in need, we figured the most effective way to do so would be to connect her to a real child, her same age, to make the concept personal.
Although she may never meet her sponsored friend, or travel to Guatemala, she will have a connection to her through letters and prayers. She will learn to be compassionate, to think of her and pray for her.
She may not understand the reasons why we can’t just mail her a new pair of shoes but it doesn’t matter. The seed for compassion is planted and I hope it will grow in her.
I know many of you already sponsor children and have been doing so for many years. And as you know, there are many worthy organizations out there. Probably one of the most well-known is World Vision. They allow you to select a child based on their birthday, gender, and region where they live. You can even email your child through their local office. And World Vision is an easy choice because of their long-standing reputation for financial integrity.
The good thing is you know exactly where your money is going, and you can see the immediate effects of it in the life of a child.
